Motivation to Participate in the Collaborative: The Pharmacists’ Perspective

The HealthPartners Partners in Excellence (PIE) program provides an opportunity to sustainably provide direct patient care, expand patient-centered care approaches and expand access to care through community pharmacies. Pharmacists in the PIE program were invited to participate in the Slice of PIE initiative to facilitate the development of innovative ideas to adjust care models for patients and to share resources and identify areas of improvement within the CMM Patient Care Process delivered in the community pharmacy. Today is World Pharmacists Day

Today marks the 10th annual World Pharmacists Day – a day celebrating how the pharmacy profession is “transforming global health.” With this year’s theme in mind, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy would like to recognize and thank all of its international pharmacy partners as they work to improve human health around the world. PharmAlliance-funded collaboration advances Alzheimer’s disease research

Research from PharmAlliance collaborators (published March 2020) revealed changes in intestinal permeability and oral absorption for some medications in mouse models of Alzheimer’s Disease. The drugs that showed a decrease in oral absorption, digoxin and valsartan, are commonly prescribed medications for cardiac conditions. Often times, patients with Alzheimer’s Disease are also being treated for cardiac conditions with these medications. This research was conducted in mouse models; however, if the findings are similar in humans, this research could change the way some medications are dosed in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease. School moves up to No. 9 in 2020 QS World University Rankings

This week, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy moved up to No. 9 in the 2020 QS World University Rankings for the Best World Universities in Pharmacy and Pharmacology.
