Wernoski Named Executive Vice Dean, Will Oversee School Operations

Rick Wernoski, MPA, has been appointed executive vice dean and chief operating officer of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Wernoski will be responsible for all operational and financial aspects of the School and its institutes and centers. Wernoski joined the School in 2010 as the executive associate dean for administration and chief financial officer responsible for finance, faculty affairs, research administration, human resources, facilities, communications, information technology, and educational technology. Third-year doctor of pharmacy students at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy received their white coats during the annual White Coat Ceremony on February 28 at Memorial Hall. The white coat is the traditional symbol of health professionals. Preceptor Gigi Davidson Wins U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention’s Highest Award

Veterinary pharmacist Gigi Davidson has been named the recipient of the 2015 Beal Award for Distinguished Volunteer Service, the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention’s highest award. Davidson is a preceptor for the veterinary pharmacy rotation at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Moldova’s Ambassador Speaks at UNC Pharmacy School

Igor Munteanu, the Moldovan ambassador to America, spoke on the current state and possible future of Moldova during a presentation to UNC students last Wednesday at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. UNC Fields First Team for CLARION Competition

This year Carolina sent its first-ever team to Minneapolis to compete in the national CLARION Interprofessional Team Case Competition held April 11–12. Shawnda Herring represented pharmacy, and Assistant Professor Kelly Scolaro, PharmD, served as the team’s faculty adviser. Dean Nehama from the School of Medicine and Courtney Hill and Hilary Perrey from the Gillings School of Global Public Health comprised the rest of the students on the team. Renovations Completed at Asheville Satellite Campus

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy recently completed a $400,000 renovation of the facilities at its Asheville satellite campus based at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. The Mission Healthcare Foundation provided $200,000 for the for the renovation thanks to a matching grant from the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation. The project also received $100,000 in support from the Golden LEAF Foundation to help complete the work that comprises the following projects in Karpen and Zeis Halls: Modified and equipped two laboratory spaces in Zeis Hall (131 and 333 Zeis) for use as eighteen-seat classrooms to support pharmaceutical care lab … Read more

One hundred and eighty-three high school students, college students, and college graduates participated in the 2013 Carolina Pharmacy Leadership, Excellence, And Development (LEAD) program. This year’s program held sessions on June 11 in Asheville and on June 18 and 19 in Chapel Hill. The LEAD program is an annual, one-day preparatory and professional development program geared toward students who are interested in exploring a career in pharmacy and learning how to be competitive in the pharmacy-school admissions process.
