The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is the recipient of the 2012 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Academic Unit University Diversity Award. The University Diversity Award recognizes significant contribution to the enhancement, support and/or furtherance of diversity on the campus and in the community. Eshelman Gives $2.5 Million to Fund Instruction, Research

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has received a $2.5 million gift from alumnus Fred Eshelman, PharmD, to expand the School’s research programs and help transform the classroom experience for pharmacy students. School Unveils Five-Year Strategic Plan

Eckel Honored for Establishing Hospital Residency Program

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and UNC Hospitals have established the Fred M. Eckel Pharmacy Leadership Award in honor of the School professor who established the UNC Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program forty-four years ago. Eckel, a faculty member in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Experiential Education, joined the School in 1966 and established the pharmacy residency program at UNC Hospital the following year. Since its establishment, the program has trained more than 250 residents, who have been practicing pharmacy around the world in settings such as acute care, ambulatory care, academia, and administration. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy held its annual Carolina Pharmacy Leadership, Excellence, And Development (LEAD) program with four sessions in June in Chapel Hill and Elizabeth City. The LEAD program is a one-day preparatory and professional development program geared toward underserved and underrepresented students who are interested in exploring a career in pharmacy and learning how to be competitive in the pharmacy-school admissions process. Daniels Promoted to Associate Dean

Rowell Daniels, PharmD, MS, has been named associate dean, pharmacy clinical practice at Chapel Hill for the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. School Responds to 7 Percent Cut in State Funds

As the state of North Carolina’s revenue projections worsen, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill officials have directed the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to return 7 percent of its state funds and to plan for the possibility of even deeper cuts, says Dean Bob Blouin. The School returned 5 percent of its budget at the end of 2008. An additional 1 percent must be returned by the end of January and another 1 percent cut is expected in March. Voters at three Charlotte polling sites can get their annual flu shot after casting their ballot on Nov. 4. The vaccination clinics are being held as part of the national Vote & Vax program.
