Blouin Receives NCAP Blanton Award for Pharmacy Contributions
November 25, 2015Bob Blouin, Pharm.D., the Vaughn and Nancy Bryson Distinguished Professor and dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina and the director of the Eshelman Institute for Innovation, has been awarded the 2015 Don Blanton Award by the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. The Blanton award recognizes the pharmacist who has contributed most to the advancement of pharmacy in North Carolina during the past year. Woodall Named NCAP’s 2015 Distinguished Young Pharmacist
November 23, 2015Tasha Woodall, Pharm.D., an assistant professor of clinical education and clinical instructor of family medicine at the School’s Asheville campus, was awarded the 2015 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award by the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. “I am so humbled by this award and so appreciative of NCAP for its continuing commitment to the support of new practitioners,” she said. UNC Hospitals Pharmacy Team Wins Fifth Straight ASHP Best Practices Award
November 20, 2015For the fifth year in a row, a Department of Pharmacy team at UNC Hospitals that includes UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy faculty has been recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists with a National Best Practices Award. The award recognizes outstanding practitioners who have implemented innovative systems and demonstrated best practices in health-system pharmacy. The UNC team was selected as one of six recipients in the country. UNC Pharmacy Launches New Pharmacy Ownership Residency
November 16, 2015The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, in partnership with the National Community Pharmacists Association and Mutual Drug Company, has created a pharmacy residency program for new graduates interested in becoming independent community pharmacy owners. Beginning in the 2016–2017 academic year, the 12-month Independent Pharmacy Ownership Residency will place recent doctor of pharmacy graduates at one of two independently owned community pharmacies in North Carolina: Drugco Discount Pharmacy in Roanoke Rapids and Central Pharmacy in Durham. “The independent pharmacy ownership residency program will teach residents innovative and entrepreneurial techniques to be pharmacy owners in an evolving health-care market,” said Stefanie Ferreri, Pharm.D., … Read more
School Presenters Win at N.C. Health Professions Diversity Conference
October 30, 2015Members of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy competed in the 2015 North Carolina Health Professions Diversity Conference’s poster competition, with School teams bringing home first, second and third place. The conference was held August 27 and 28 at the Grandover Hotel and Conference Center in Greensboro. Clinicians, researchers, faculty and students from across North Carolina attended the event, which was hosted by the North Carolina Alliance for Health Profession Diversity, North Carolina Area Health Education Centers and the Winston-Salem State University School of Health Sciences. Bacteria in Residence May Improve Women’s Defense against HIV Infection
October 8, 2015Specific microbes appear to strengthen a woman’s natural physical barriers against sexually transmitted infections like HIV, according to researchers at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The mucus lining of the cervix and vagina is a woman’s first line of defense against sexually transmitted infections. NIH Funds CNDD Proposal to Develop New Stroke Treatment
October 7, 2015Researchers in the Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy have received a translational NIH grant worth $783,000 over two years to develop a way to deliver to the brain a protein capable of repairing some of the damage caused by stroke. The grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke will fund the CNDD’s efforts to design a new nanoparticle delivery system capable of transporting a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor to the brain and central nervous system. Donna Gutterman Receives UNC Pharmacy Alumni Association 2015 Distinguished Service Award
September 29, 2015Donna Gutterman, Pharm.D., M.B.A., a 1979 graduate of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and president of pharmaceutical and medical consulting firm Onesta, Inc., is the 2015 recipient of the UNC Pharmacy Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award. Gutterman has served on the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Foundation Board since 2012 and the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors since 2004.
