Tasha Woodall, Pharm.D., an assistant professor of clinical education and clinical instructor of family medicine at the School’s Asheville campus, was awarded the 2015 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award by the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists.
“I am so humbled by this award and so appreciative of NCAP for its continuing commitment to the support of new practitioners,” she said.
Woodall earned her Pharm.D. from Purdue University and completed her residency in ambulatory care with Mission Hospital and MAHEC in Asheville. She is a member of the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education.
Mollie Scott, Pharm.D., is the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s regional associate dean for the Asheville campus. She said Woodall has been a leader in innovative practice and geriatrics during her time at the School.
“Since joining the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as a shared faculty member with MAHEC in 2012, Tasha has served as an exemplary teacher, preceptor, clinician and researcher,” she said. “I am so pleased that she was this year’s recipient of NCAP’s Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award and that she is part of the Asheville campus faculty.”
In her role as the associate director of pharmacotherapy for MAHEC Family medicine, Woodall provides clinical pharmacy services for ambulatory elders at two different retirement communities in Asheville.
“Some of her many accomplishments include development of annual wellness visits for older adults, creation of an ambulatory-care summer internship for pharmacy students, development of interprofessional educational models for the geriatrics elective and participation in grants that seek to improve the health of Western North Carolina,” Scott said.
Woodall attributes her success and growth so far to the Asheville campus and its faculty support.
“Here in Asheville, there are so many exciting initiatives ongoing in pharmacy practice. I count myself fortunate to be a part of a community that is so dedicated to the advancement of our profession,” she said. “I feel strongly that I owe much of my success to the supportive environment I live in and to the forum NCAP provides to exchange ideas with other, brighter minds in the world of pharmacy.”
Stephen Eckel, Pharm.D., M.P.H, is the president-elect for NCAP and will take the position of president in January 2016. He is associate director of pharmacy at UNC Hospitals and a clinical associate professor in the School.
“It’s encouraging that Tasha Woodall got the distinguished young pharmacist award because that is a demonstration of someone who is up and coming, and having received the attention of the association through outstanding daily work is a tremendous accomplishment,” Eckel said.
