PY4 Levine Receives APhA Foundation Charles C. Thomas Scholarship

The American Pharmacists Association Foundation has selected fourth-year Doctor of Pharmacy student Jennifer Levine as the 2016 recipient of the Charles C. Thomas scholarship. The APhA Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., received a record 92 applications from 62 schools and colleges of pharmacy. Of the applicants, eight students received scholarships this year. Scholarships are awarded to recognize exceptional demonstration of leadership skills and academics through active involvement in the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists. Inaugural Carolina Nanoformulation Workshop Shares Discoveries in Nanomedicine

From March 14 to 18, scientists from industry and academia converged on the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to learn about and to get hands-on experience with the latest advances in nanomedicine at the inaugural Carolina Nanoformulation Workshop. New Kinase Inhibitor Effective against Drug-Resistant Leukemia, Preclinical Study Finds

A novel compound developed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has shown promise in preclinical studies as a treatment for acute myeloid leukemia, more than doubling median days of survival even in a drug-resistant form of the disease. School Earns Number One U.S. News Ranking among Pharmacy Schools

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is number one in the latest rankings of the nation’s Doctor of Pharmacy programs by U.S. News & World Report in the 2017 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. The School placed second in the 2013 and 2009 U.S. News rankings, the last two times these ratings were compiled. Stephen Eckel Appointed Associate Dean for Global Engagement

Stephen Eckel, Pharm.D., M.H.A., has been appointed associate dean for global engagement of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy effective February 1, succeeding Dhiren Thakker, Ph.D., who served in the role for the past eight years. Eckel will be responsible for identifying and pursuing strategic partnerships to expand the research, education and practice mission of the School globally. Jon Easter Joins School as Director of CMOPP

Jon Easter has joined the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as the director of the Center for Medication Optimization through Practice and Policy and a professor of the practice. Three PGY1 community pharmacy residents at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy are recipients of APhA Foundation Incentive Grants. They will be recognized at the APhA 2016 Annual Meeting and Exposition March 4–7 in Baltimore. UNC Scientists First to Hunt Brain Cancer with Skin Cells Converted to Stem Cells
