Commencement celebrates the Class of 2023

One hundred ninety-three students came together Saturday, May 13 to mark their accomplishments during the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy commencement ceremony at Memorial Hall.   The School’s Class of 2023 included 22 Master of Science (M.S.) candidates, 155 Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) candidates and 16 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) candidates.  They were among nearly 6,500 Tar Heels, including undergraduate, graduate and professional students, to have their Carolina degrees conferred over the weekend.  Angela Kashuba, Dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, opened the ceremony by celebrating the Class of 2023. “This is your time to celebrate your accomplishments, your … Read more


Honoring the classes of 2023 and 1973

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy hosted the First Annual Golden Mortar Awards to celebrate student achievement, faculty and preceptor excellence and outstanding alumni.   The Hollywood-style awards ceremony was held at the Varsity Theatre in downtown Chapel Hill and was emceed by Libby Powell, fourth year student body president, and Adam Persky, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Professional Education.  In addition to celebrating the graduating class of 2023, the class of 1973 was honored, marking their 50th reunion. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy announces new undergraduate minor

Carolina undergraduates now have the opportunity to study pharmaceutical sciences. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy will soon be offering a new minor in pharmaceutical sciences and it will be available to all undergraduate students. Students share research findings at poster presentation

Third year Pharm.D. students in the Research and Scholarship in Pharmacy (RASP) pathway presented their research findings to peers, faculty and staff members of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy on April 19.  RASP is a longitudinal, selective pathway within the Doctor of Pharmacy elective curriculum built around a mentored, in-depth, scholarly project. UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy received highest residency match rate in the U.S. among pharmacy schools with at least 88 students registered

Pharm.D. students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy received the highest American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) PGY1 residency match rate among schools of pharmacy in the U.S. with at least 88 students registered. The match happens annually to help Pharm.D. students secure positions in residency programs of their choice, and to help the programs get the applicants of their choice.   “This is a huge accomplishment for many of our students, and we are excited for them to advance medicine for life in residency programs across the country,” said Angela Kashuba, Dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. … Read more


A family legacy of service

Generational and community impact is what inspired Cassidy Cox, Pharm.D. candidate class of 2025, to pursue her pharmacy education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.   Her grandparents, Hugh Cox, RPh, and Mary Drusilla Cox, RPh, were both community pharmacists in Abington, Massachusetts. They owned and operated Bemis Drug for 40 years before passing it on to Cassidy’s father and uncle. Building skills for success

Until her junior year of undergrad, Lauren Fasth, Pharm.D. candidate ’24, had no intention of being a pharmacist. She had been committed to medical school – a drive that began with her high school biology classes. Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society inducts 26 students

Established in 1922, the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society encourages and recognizes excellence in intellectual achievement and advocates critical inquiry in all aspects of pharmacy. The Rho Chi Xi Chapter in Chapel Hill held its annual induction ceremony at the Carolina Inn on March 11, welcoming 26 second year Pharm.D. students into the prestigious organization.
