Chinese student immersion program kicks off its second year

Undergraduate students from eight Chinese universities arrived July 14 at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy for the Innovations and Transformations in Pharmaceutical Sciences program. During the four-week experience, the visiting students live on UNC’s campus and learn more about pharmacy school in the United States, as well as various career options in the pharmaceutical field. The schedule includes faculty lectures from all five of the School’s Divisions, with topics from drug discovery to mental health pharmacotherapy. 1 in 4 older adults fall each year; UNC, CDC want to change that

A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded (CDC) program in collaboration with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and UNC School of Medicine will provide community pharmacists with the resources to help prevent falls in older adults. The STEADI-Rx (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths and Injuries) initiative aims to reduce the risk of falls by allowing more collaboration between pharmacists and other healthcare providers. Postdoc finds passion in geriatric care, educating community pharmacists

Brian Lawson named UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy inaugural Global Executive in Residence

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has selected Brian Lawson, Pharm.D., Senior Director of Professional Affairs and International Engagement with the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), as the first Global Executive in Residence with its Office of Global Engagement through June 30, 2020. Independent Pharmacy Ownership Residency program welcomes 2019-20 residents

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is hosting six residents for the fourth year of the Independent Pharmacy Ownership Residency program. Through the year-long residency, the School provides an outlet for Pharm.D. graduates to serve communities while building entrepreneurship skills. Participants gain patient care experience in an independently-owned pharmacy while developing a pharmacy ownership business plan. Four students selected for summer internship to aid local underserved communities

A student-designed, service-oriented internship for rising UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy PY3 students through the Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) is starting its second summer. SHAC is a collaboration between UNC students focused on health sciences and aims to provide free health services to uninsured and underinsured patients in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Durham. Community pharmacy staff frequently encounter patients who are at risk for suicide, study finds

A new survey from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy showed while many community pharmacists have interacted with patients who are at-risk for suicide at some point, there is a need for additional training programs so they can properly intervene in these situations. Delesha Carpenter, Ph.D., MSPH, from the School’s Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, was the study’s corresponding author. PharmD candidate inducted as American Society of Health System Pharmacists Student Forum Executive Committee member

UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy student Sara Scott wants to be an advocate for pharmacy students and the pharmacy profession. To do so, Scott joined the American Society of Heath System Pharmacists (ASHP) in 2016 to be able to work with student pharmacists from across the country and to support the growth of student members as advocates of the pharmacy profession, she said.
