The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has selected Brian Lawson, Pharm.D., Senior Director of Professional Affairs and International Engagement with the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), as the first Global Executive in Residence with its Office of Global Engagement through June 30, 2020.
As the Executive in Residence, Lawson will continue his work with BPS while sharing his talents with UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy faculty, staff, students and residents. He will also be engaging in learning objectives and development opportunities to advance pharmacy practice and education, as well as board certification in the U.S and the broader global community.
The Global Executive in Residence aligns with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Office of Global Engagement’s primary objectives to expand the School’s education, research, and practice mission globally, and to initiate and participate in global health care initiatives in partnership with UNC health science schools and other health care institutions.
“As the world becomes more culturally diverse in a globalized society and economy, it is necessary to train and develop the next generation of globally minded pharmacists by enabling student and faculty members to have a meaningful impact on a global scale,” said UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Global Engagement, David R. Steeb, Pharm.D., MPH.
Lawson received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. In 2008, he was named the recipient of the first Knowlton Center Executive Residency in Association Management and Leadership at the APhA Foundation. Prior to BPS, Lawson was the Associate Director, Governance in the Executive Offices division at APhA.
Lawson will be presenting at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy on July 31 in Beard 116: “Trends in Advanced Pharmacy Practice and Professional Development through Board Certification.”
