UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy student Sara Scott wants to be an advocate for pharmacy students and the pharmacy profession.

To do so, Scott joined the American Society of Heath System Pharmacists (ASHP) in 2016 to be able to work with student pharmacists from across the country and to support the growth of student members as advocates of the pharmacy profession, she said.

On June 8, Scott, a Pharm.D. candidate ’20, was inducted as an ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee member on a national level to serve a one-year term. She is one of five executive committee members.

ASHP is a national organization that represents pharmacists who serve as patient care providers in acute and ambulatory settings. The organization, which consists of nearly 50,000 members, includes pharmacists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Prior to her new role, Scott served as President-Elect and President of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s ASHP Student Societies of Health-System Pharmacy and as a member of the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Policy and Legislative Advocacy Advisory Group.

“These positions have played a significant role in my professional and personal development, and I wanted to give back to the organization and foster similar opportunity for other students,” Scott said.

Scott said she aspires to become an oncology pharmacist and work as a clinician in an ambulatory care setting. She also hopes to continue her involvement with ASHP throughout her career.
