Pharmacists Missing Chance to Counsel Children, UNC Study Finds

Children receiving a prescription medication should be counseled directly by a health care professional, recommends the Institute of Medicine and United States Pharmacopeia. But that’s not happening, according to a new study led by the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Pharmacy researchers observed 97 families pick up 116 prescriptions for children at three community pharmacies over a two-week period. Two-thirds of the time, the child was not present when a parent or caregiver picked up the prescription. Mollie Scott Named ASHP Fellow

Mollie Scott, Pharm.D., has been named a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in recognition of the excellence she has achieved in pharmacy practice. Scott is the School’s regional associate dean for the Asheville satellite campus and a clinical associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. “Mollie is most deserving of this recognition. School Earns Number One U.S. News Ranking among Pharmacy Schools

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is number one in the latest rankings of the nation’s Doctor of Pharmacy programs by U.S. News & World Report in the 2017 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. The School placed second in the 2013 and 2009 U.S. News rankings, the last two times these ratings were compiled. Woodall Named NCAP’s 2015 Distinguished Young Pharmacist

Tasha Woodall, Pharm.D., an assistant professor of clinical education and clinical instructor of family medicine at the School’s Asheville campus, was awarded the 2015 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award by the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. “I am so humbled by this award and so appreciative of NCAP for its continuing commitment to the support of new practitioners,” she said.
