One hundred forty-nine third-year doctor of pharmacy students at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy received their white coats during the annual White Coat Ceremony on February 23 at Memorial Hall. The white coat is the traditional symbol of health professionals. CAPS Wins Two Awards at APhA-ASP Midyear Regional Meeting

The Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy won the Operation Diabetes award and the Operation Immunization award at the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists Region 3 Midyear Regional Meeting on November 10 in Raleigh. The CAPS patient-care projects Operation Diabetes and Operation Immunization were selected for the awards from a pool of twenty-five schools of pharmacy. This marks the first time the School has won two awards at the regional meeting. NCPA Honors School Preceptors Moose, Branham

Joe Moose, PharmD, and Ashley Branham, PharmD, preceptors for the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, received three awards at the National Community Pharmacists Association Annual Convention and Trade Exposition in San Diego, California, on October 13-17. Moose was named the Next Generation Pharmacist Entrepreneur of the Year and the Overall Next Generation Pharmacist of the Year. Preceptor Lee Named Community Care Pharmacist of the Year

170 Explore Pharmacy Via 2012 LEAD Program

One hundred and seventy high school and college students experienced compounding, learned about leadership, received career advice, and explored all the options a pharmacy degree offers at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s 2012 Leadership, Education, and Development Program sessions in Chapel Hill and Asheville. The LEAD Program is for students interested in pharmacy school or who want to learn more about careers in pharmacy.The event featured keynote speakers; seminars on academic and professional preparation; hands-on experiences with current student pharmacists, PhD students and faculty; and panel discussions with pharmacy clinicians and reseachers from various areas of pharmacy practice.
