One hundred and seventy high school and college students experienced compounding, learned about leadership, received career advice, and explored all the options a pharmacy degree offers at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s 2012 Leadership, Education, and Development Program sessions in Chapel Hill and Asheville.

The LEAD Program is for students interested in pharmacy school or who want to learn more about careers in pharmacy.The event featured keynote speakers; seminars on academic and professional preparation; hands-on experiences with current student pharmacists, PhD students and faculty; and panel discussions with pharmacy clinicians and reseachers from various areas of pharmacy practice.

The 2012 speakers were Anson Dorrance, head coach of the UNC women’s soccer team; Howard McLeod, PharmD, Fred Eshelman Distinguished Professor and director of the School’s Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy; Stephanie Norris Kiser, executive director of community health and corporate wellness at Mission Hospital in Asheville; and Daniel G. Garrett, MS, a pharmacist chair of a number of community outreach programs.
