When Min Jiang applied to Carolina, she was set on pursuing a business degree. That all changed when her grandfather came to live with her family as he was aging. Soon after, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.  “All of a sudden, our lives were full of different medications. I learned that medications are a big part of life—people get older and diseases happen. Fall 2023 Orientation Week

It’s orientation week for Pharm.D. students at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, and they’re being welcomed with open arms and five days of events and activities.   The first orientation event, held on August 1, was a dinner on the lawn outside Kerr Hall for students to start building connections at the School. Meet the Class of 2027

A new school year is starting, which means the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is welcoming a new group of outstanding students.   The class of 2027 includes 151 students who hail from 28 of the 50 states plus Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, China and Canada.   The incoming students are more than just a number. Eshelman Institute for Innovation establishes research collaboration with Aston University

As part of a new collaboration, the Eshelman Institute for Innovation (EII), within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, will work with Aston University in the U.K. on a three-year project focused on preventing damage caused by swelling of the central nervous system (CNS).  The EII was established in 2014 with a $100 million commitment from Fred Eshelman, Pharm.D, and provides translational grant funding to Carolina faculty for therapeutic research focused on oncology, infectious disease, and neuroscience (including rare diseases); however, the EII welcomes ideas for devices and diagnostics, and other therapeutic areas and services. Juliane Nguyen promoted to full professor and honored with Controlled Release Society Award

Juliane Nguyen, Ph.D., has been promoted to full professor in the Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics (DPMP) at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy where she also serves as vice chair and director of graduate admissions.  “I’m grateful for this promotion, and I truly believe it’s a testament to the incredible efforts of the outstanding students, postdocs and collaborators I’ve had the privilege of working with at Carolina and the University at Buffalo. Shawn Hingtgen promoted to full professor

Shawn Hingtgen, Ph.D., has been promoted to full professor in the Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics (DPMP) at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Global inspiration leads to presentation at AACP

Isabel Cheng, Pharm.D. candidate Class of 2024, started as a student at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy during the pandemic in 2020, which ended up being the inspiration for her research on vaccine hesitancy. Vaccine hesitancy has always been present but became even more evident during COVID-19 and led to Cheng expanding a vaccine champion curriculum from the University College London (UCL) to Carolina.  Cheng discovered the vaccine champion curriculum at UCL when she was vice president of PharmAlliance in early 2021. Global experience: program connects international students with Carolina

Students from around the world are exploring cutting-edge research and innovative technologies at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Ilona Owens promoted to Senior Director of the Office of Student Affairs

Since starting her role at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2022, Ilona Owens, has built a strong foundation in the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). She began as the director of OSA and has now been promoted to senior director.   Owens received her bachelor’s degree from Elon University.
