Sixth Educational Renaissance Symposium Aims to Keep Pace with Health Care

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy held its Sixth Annual Educational Renaissance Symposium March 5 at the Carolina Inn. This year’s symposium focused on accelerating the transformation of the School’s doctor of pharmacy curriculum to keep pace with changes in health care. Michael Patti Selected as Pharmacy Quality Alliance Scholar

Pharm.D. candidate Michael Patti was selected as a Pharmacy Quality Alliance–CVS Health Foundation Scholar. The program offers an opportunity to present the results of a quality-based project at its 2018 poster session and a scholarship to get there. Patti is being mentored by Stefanie Ferreri, Pharm.D., clinical professor and executive vice chair of the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. The program is a partnership between PQA and the CVS Health Foundation to support and recognize student excellence in projects centered on quality-related initiatives. Wingo Returns to Direct Office of Curricular and Student Affairs

Brad Wingo, M.Ed., has returned to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as the director of the Office of Curricular and Student Affairs. Wingo worked at the School previously as the director of student affairs and spent a year in between as the director of academic advising in the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University. The Office of Curricular and Student Affairs was formerly two separate offices, the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Experiential Education. Students Place Second in ASHP Clinical Skills Competition

A team from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s American Society of Health-System Pharmacists student chapter placed second out of 132 chapters in the ASHP Clinical Skills Competition, an interactive, team-based analysis of clinical scenarios for hospital and health-system pharmacists, held in Las Vegas on Dec. 3 and 4. Prutha Lavani and Jill Zaccardelli, both fourth-year Pharm.D. students, advanced to the national level by winning the local competition held by the School in September. Students Succeed at 2017 SNPhA Regions I and II Conference

Students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association had a good showing at the 2017 SNPhA Regions I and II Conference held at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, March 17-19. PY2 Roderick Gladney from Thomasville, North Carolina, and PY2 Nakiya Whitfield from Spring Lake, North Carolina, placed second in the clinical skills competition. AMCP Chapter Wins in First Trip to National P&T Case Competition

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy student chapter took first place in the 2017 National Student Pharmacist Pharmacy & Therapeutics Competition, winning a $4,000 scholarship for the School. The competition took place on March 29 at the AMCP Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting in Denver, and the team was presented with the award during the award ceremony the following day. China Scholarship Council Inks First-of-Its-Kind Agreement with UNC Pharmacy

The China Scholarship Council has signed a memorandum of understanding with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to provide financial assistance for Chinese students studying pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In a ceremony at the Carolina Inn on Monday, March 27, representatives of the China Scholarship Council agreed to provide support to Chinese students who are accepted into the Doctor of Pharmacy and the Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences program at the pharmacy school. Students Win Big at 2016 SNPhA National Conference

Five students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy won scholarships for their academic achievements and service to the community at the 2016 Student National Pharmaceutical Association National Conference, which was held July 29-31 in Atlanta.
