Brad Wingo Receives Inaugural Phyllis Smith Staff Award for Excellence

Brad Wingo, MEd, is the recipient of the first Phyllis Smith Staff Award for Excellence given by the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Wingo is the School’s director of student affairs. Wingo came to the School in 2011 from North Carolina State University. There he directed the Student Success and Advising Center and coordinated advising for the College of Education from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, he was the director of Student Support Center at North Carolina Wesleyan College for five years. Office of Assessment Expands to Encompass Strategic Planning

The role of the Office of Assessment at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has been expanded to encompass the School’s new strategic-planning and ongoing institutional assessment efforts. Mary Roth McClurg, PharmD, MHS, will continue to direct the School’s new Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment. As director, Roth will now report to Vice Dean Russ Mumper, PhD, to reflect the broader role of the new office. Whitley Donates Portrait to Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum

A unique holiday present was presented to the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum in Sedalia during its Annual Christmas Open House on December 11. Artist Jason Whitley, creative lead for instructional innovation at the School, donated a portrait of the museum’s namesake that he originally created for the Charlotte Observer for use in an African American history supplement in 2005. The newspaper granted Whitley permission to donate the portrait. Charlotte Hawkins Brown founded the nationally renowned Palmer Institute in 1902 as a preparatory school for African American youth. Davidson to Lead Educational Technology Development at School

Chris Davidson has been named as the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s new director of educational technology research and development. In his new role, Davidson will work closely with faculty and ITS Teaching and Learning to foster the creation, development, and integration of a host of multimedia educational offerings into the professional and graduation programs in the School. UNC Employee Forum Honors Middleton, Smith

Geri Middleton and Phyllis Smith, employees at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, have received awards from the UNC-Chapel Hill Employee Forum recognizing their service to the School. Middleton, who received the Rookie Award, is the Pharmaceutical Care Labs assistant. Long to Lead IPIT’s Pharmacoinformatics Facility

The UNC Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy has named Kevin Long as the director of its pharmacoinformatics facility. The new pharmacoinformatics facility, which is based in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, has been created to develop resources for assessing drug-gene relationships, performing computational pharmacology analysis and providing IT platforms for pharmacogenomics studies. Hoskins to Direct UNC Genomics Facility

The UNC Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy, a research center within the UNC School of Pharmacy, recently named Janelle M. Hoskins as the director of its new Molecular Genomics Facility. This facility provides project design, data analysis, technology selection, and genotyping for IPIT investigators. A native of Australia, Hoskins received her PhD in pharmacology at the University of Sydney and postdoctoral training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and at UNC-Chapel Hill.
