Pharmacy Grad Students Prevail in UNC Three Minute Thesis Competition

Katelyn Arnold, a graduate student in the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, won first place in this year’s Three Minute Thesis competition hosted by the UNC Graduate School on Nov. 1. Aaron Devanathan, Pharm.D., a graduate student in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, received the People’s Choice Award. Arnold received a prize of $1,000 and will represent the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the 2018 regional Three Minute Thesis competition. PharmSci 2017 Conference – Pharmacy in the Era of Precision Medicine: From Discovery to Implementation

The Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics organized and hosted The Eleventh Annual Chapel Hill Pharmaceutical Science Conference on May 18-19, titled, “Pharmacy in the Era of Precision Medicine: From Discovery to Implementation.” The conference focused on various aspects of precision medicine, including the use of pharmacogenomics, novel pharmacologic and phenotypic approaches, quantitative clinical pharmacology in drug-treatment individualization and implementation of precision-medicine findings. Over 200 people gathered in Chapel Hill to discuss key aspects of precision therapy. Williams, Campbell Appointed to BPS Specialty Council

Associate Professor Dennis Williams, Pharm.D., and Assistant Professor of Clinical Education Kristen Campbell, Pharm.D., were appointed to the Board of Pharmacy Specialists Specialty Council. The council appointed only 27 pharmacists out of the more than 100 who applied. Williams is vice chair for professional education and practice in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics. Campbell is member of the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education and a clinical pharmacist at Duke University Hospital. DPET Grad Student Srinivas Wins International Prize for HIV Research

Nithya Srinivas, a graduate student at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, is the recipient of the IAS/ANRS Lange-van Tongeren Prize for Young Investigators in the clinical sciences track from the International AIDS Society and the France Recherche Nord & Sud Sida-HIV Hépatites. Srinivas is a fourth-year student in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics. She is a member of the UNC Graduate School’s Royster Society of Fellows. Her adviser is Angela Kashuba, Pharm.D., DPET chair and the John and Deborah McNeill, Jr. Distinguished Professor at the School. Mosedale Awarded Regulatory Science Award from Burroughs Wellcome Fund

Merrie Mosedale, Ph.D., has been selected as one of five recipients of the 2017 Burroughs Wellcome Fund Innovation in Regulatory Science Award. The award provides $500,000 over five years for research into new methodologies and innovative approaches in regulatory science. Rodgers Honored with ACCP Clinical Practice Award

Jo Ellen Rodgers, Pharm.D., has been named the recipient of the 2017 Clinical Practice Award from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Rodgers is a clinical associate professor and associate director of clinical fellowship programs in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Brouwer Delivers Krantz Lecture at University of the Sciences

Kenan Distinguished Professor Kim L.R. Brouwer, Pharm.D., Ph.D., delivered the 2017 John C. Krantz, Jr. Lecture at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on April 6. Cen Guo Receives 2016 Brewington Award as Most Outstanding Graduate Student

Cen Guo, a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, has been awarded the School’s Kathryne A. Brewington Graduate Student Research Award, which is given annually to the most outstanding doctoral student in the pharmaceutical sciences. Under the guidance of Kim Brouwer, Pharm.D., Ph.D., Guo’s dissertation research focuses on hepatic transporters and pharmacokinetic modeling. Persky Receives 2017 AACP Distinguished Teaching Scholar Award

Adam Persky, Ph.D., has been named a recipient of a 2017 Distinguished Teaching Scholar Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. He will be honored along with one other recipient during the Opening General Session of this year’s AACP Annual Meeting, held July 15–19 in Nashville, Tennessee. Persky is a clinical associate professor in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
