Pharmacy students, residents administer first COVID-19 vaccines in Chapel Hill, Hillsborough

Six UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy learners took part in a historic day, preparing and administering the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough on Dec. 15. “Right from the first year of their pharmacy program, our learners have intensive and comprehensive vaccine training. They are well prepared to help North Carolina’s medical centers distribute and administer this game-changing vaccine. Betsy Sleath named Regional Associate Dean of Eastern NC, Delesha Carpenter to lead as Interim Chair of DPOP

Rao receives $1.88 million US Department of Defense grant to create novel hydrogel wound dressing to combat antibiotic-resistant ‘superbugs’

Gauri Rao, Pharm.D., M.S., has been awarded a $1.88 million U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) grant to help fight antibiotic resistant superbugs with regards to wound care, and ultimately help ease the economic burden of caring for bacterial wound infections. The cost of chronic wound care in the United States is staggering at over $2.6 billion a year, according to Rao, assistant professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Blalock develops COVID-19 vaccine tracking website

A new informational resource concerning COVID-19 vaccine development, covidvaccinestatus.info, was recently launched to provide accurate and up-to-date information about ongoing, late-stage clinical trials of vaccines to prevent COVID-19. Patterson honored with ACCP Cardiology Practice and Research Network Lifetime Achievement Award

This fall, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Herb Patterson, Pharm.D., received the honorable American College of Clinical Pharmacy (AACP) Cardiology Practice and Research Network (PRN) Lifetime Achievement Award.
