Betsy Sleath, Ph.D.

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has named Betsy Sleath, Ph.D., as its first Regional Associate Dean of Eastern North Carolina, effective Jan. 1.

In this new role, Sleath will develop new strategic partnerships between the School and other units on campus, post-secondary institutions, new and existing health care systems, and other stakeholders in Eastern North Carolina. She will also develop a new Eastern NC advisory committee to bring potential partners, alumni, and faculty together to select those opportunities that will best serve the state and enrich the School of Pharmacy.

“Over many decades, our School has demonstrated significant success in education, practice, and scholarship in Western North Carolina. And over the past year, we have seen growing opportunities for the School in those areas in Eastern North Carolina, particularly in partnership with the UNC School of Medicine,” said Angela Kashuba, dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. “To capitalize on these opportunities, the School’s Executive Committee endorsed Dr. Sleath for the role of Regional Associate Dean of Eastern NC. Her talents and experience are a perfect match for future success.”

Sleath has been conducting research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the Duke Endowment in Eastern NC for over 15 years and has developed strong relationships with many potential partners.

“I love Eastern North Carolina and the partners I have worked with over the years are phenomenal. We continue to do important work together on improving adolescent health and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help the School build additional partnerships in research, teaching, and service in the region,” Sleath said. “I look forward to meeting and working with alumni and other partners in Eastern North Carolina starting in January.”

In addition, Sleath will work with the School’s Associate and Assistant Dean for Advancement to identify possible avenues of funding to support partnerships in the region. Finally, she will be involved in the recruitment, orientation, and mentoring of new faculty and staff that will support Eastern North Carolina partnerships.

As Sleath steps into this new role, Delesha Carpenter, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., will serve as the Interim Chair of the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy.
