Ferreri Named Interim Chair of DPPEE as Caiola Retires
May 30, 2011Stefanie Ferreri, PharmD, has been named as interim chair of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Experiential Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She succeeds Steve Caiola, MS, who will be starting phased retirement beginning July 1. Ferreri is a clinical associate professor and director of the PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program. Heparin Expert Jian Liu Promoted to Professor

April 25, 2011For the second year in a row, the PharmD students of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy named Ralph Raasch, PharmD, as their choice for the 2011 Overall Instructor of the Year Award for 2011. The honor was announced during the School’s Award Day ceremony on April 17. Additional honors went to instructors of the year selected by the first-, second-, and third-year classes. Study: Kids with Asthma Need More Help with Inhalers
March 28, 2011Less than one in ten children with asthma use traditional inhalers correctly, according to a new study from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. And while children have more success when equipped with newer inhaler designs, at best only one child in four gets it completely right, according to the findings published online in the journal Pediatrics. Asthma is the most common chronic condition among American children. Roth Receives PhRMA Foundation Award in Excellence
March 24, 2011Bryan L. Roth, PhD, a professor in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products, has received the PhRMA Foundation Award in Excellence in Pharmacology/Toxicology. The annual award honors researchers who received PhRMA Foundation grants early in their careers and then distinguished themselves through outstanding scientific and/or academic achievements. Persky Named Director of Center for Educational Excellence in Pharmacy
March 22, 2011Adam Persky, PhD, has been named director of the Center for Educational Excellence in Pharmacy at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Persky, a clinical associate professor in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, has been the center’s associate director. March 16, 2011The American Pharmacists Association has named Stefanie Ferreri, PharmD, as the 2011 recipient of the Community Pharmacy Residency Excellence in Precepting Award. Ferreri was selected in recognition of her leadership as a preceptor and mentor and her dedication to the advancement of community pharmacy practice. Xiao Named MOPH Vice Chair
March 14, 2011Xiao Xiao, PhD, has been named vice chair of the Division of Molecular Pharmaceutics at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Xiao, the Fred Eshelman Distinguished Professor of Gene Therapy, joined the division in 2006. His research focuses on gene delivery and therapy for various genetic and acquired diseases. His research on muscular dystrophy, especially Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, has received international recognition, and his groundbreaking work has been developed into the first gene therapy phase I clinical trial for DMD in the United States.
