Professor Craig R. Lee, Pharm.D., Ph.D., has been named the new Chair of the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics (DPET) at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, effective August 1, 2022.

Lee is currently a professor and the vice chair for research and graduate education in DPET. He is an alumnus of the School’s Pharm.D. and Ph.D. programs, is a licensed pharmacist in North Carolina, and is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Heart Association.

Since initiation of his faculty appointment in 2006, Lee has established a highly collaborative and translational research program that focuses on developing and evaluating more precise drug selection and dosing strategies that reduce inter-individual variability and improve outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. He has received over $5M in funding from the National Institutes of Health and American Heart Association, and authored over 200 manuscripts and abstracts in the areas of cytochrome P450 metabolism, precision medicine/pharmacogenomics, and cardiovascular experimental therapeutics. Lee has served as the major research advisor for over 40 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and professional students.

Lee created and served as director of the School’s Research and Scholarship in Pharmacy pathway for Pharm.D. students from 2016-2021, and is actively engaged as a teacher and mentor in the School’s professional, graduate and fellowship programs. He is also an active member of the UNC McAllister Heart Institute and the UNC Program for Precision Medicine in Healthcare, and has an adjunct faculty appointment in the UNC School of Medicine’s Division of Cardiology.

Bob Dupuis, Pharm.D. and Jo Ellen Rodgers, Pharm.D. will remain on the DPET leadership team as the Executive Vice Chair and Vice Chair for Professional Education and Practice, respectively, and Tim Wiltshire, Ph.D. will join as the DPET Vice Chair for Research and Graduate Education.

In addition to congratulating Lee on his new leadership role, the School would like to acknowledge and thank Herb Patterson, Pharm.D., for serving as Chair of DPET. Patterson has been a dedicated and critical faculty member of the school since 1981, and we are so grateful for his excellent leadership of DPET.
