Heather Asher Prince has been named a distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Asher Prince is director of clinical operations for Clinical Pharmacology and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory in the Division of Pharmacy and Experimental Therapeutics at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

Distinguished fellows are physician assistants who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to their profession in the following areas:

  • Distinction in medical practice, education, research or health-care management
  • Leadership in medicine and health care
  • Professional involvement
  • Commitment to lifelong learning
  • Community service

The UNC Physician Assistants Program published a Q&A interview with Asher Prince.

“Heather has been an outstanding member of our lab for 10 years now, and I could not be more pleased for her,” Kashuba said. “This honor is very well-deserved and reflects the dedication, commitment and expertise she demonstrates within our research team every day.”

Asher Prince joined the School in 2008 and works in the lab of Angela Kashuba, Pharm.D., where she oversees all of the clinical trials the group embarks upon, trains all of the students and postdocs on good clinical practice and optimal clinical trial implementation and operations and is also involved in the UNC Center for AIDS Research. She holds an adjunct faculty appointment with the Physician Assistant Program in the UNC School of Medicine.

Asher Prince completed associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in microbial genetics from Peace College and earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She has completed postgraduate surgical training at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Emory University, Harvard University and John Hopkins University. She is a certified clinical research professional who oversees all clinical aspects of research studies, from protocol development to implementation and patient care in Kashuba’s lab.
