CIPhER Seminar: Transforming Learning through Assessment: Strategies from Science to Practice

April 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This seminar invites participants to explore the pivotal role of assessment in the learning process, guided by insights from the ‘Assessment Philosophy’ document developed for enhancing the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy PharmD program. This session will delve into the science of learning and the structured approach to assessments – from facilitating immediate learning feedback to shaping program outcomes. The session aims to illuminate how varied tiers of assessment contribute not only to student growth but also to the continuous improvement of educational programs. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of designing assessments that are meaningful, fair, and aligned with educational best practices.

  1. Describe how effective assessment practices serve as a critical tool in both facilitating immediate feedback for learning enhancement and in aligning with educational program outcomes.
  2. Formulate approaches for developing assessments that are meaningful, fair, and aligned with educational objectives.
  3. Identify strategies to implement various levels of assessment with the dual goals of promoting student growth and driving the continuous improvement of educational programs.
