Three Graduate Students to be Recognized at AAPS Annual Meeting
October 12, 2007Three graduate students from the UNC School of Pharmacy will be recognized at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists annual meeting in San Diego, California, on November 11-15. Dongmei Lu will receive the Ligand Binding Award. She will also participate in the AAPS Graduate Student Symposium in Biotechnology with a presentation titled “Aerosol Delivery of Recombinant Antigen 85B in Microparticle Vaccine Systems for Protection Against Tuberculosis.” Shyh-dar Li is the recipient of the Lipid-based Drug Delivery Award and will participate at the 2007 AAPS Graduate Student Symposium in Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutical Technologies. Nanomedicine Expert Russell Mumper Joins School Faculty
July 12, 2007Russell Mumper, PhD, an internationally recognized leader in the pharmaceutical applications of nanotechnology, has joined the UNC School of Pharmacy as the John A. McNeill Distinguished Professor. Mumper, an expert in vaccine and cancer drug delivery systems, will serve as the director of the School’s new Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery. The CNDD is part of a larger nanomedicine initiative at UNC that bridges disciplines in medicine, chemistry, and pharmacy. December 14, 2006Qualyst, a company created based on discoveries made at the UNC School of Pharmacy, announced that Covance Laboratories Inc., has licensed the use of Qualyst’s B-CLEAR® system to provide its pharmaceutical and biotechnology sponsors with pharmacokinetic services. Olson Named GSK Fellow
August 1, 2006Emily Olson, a graduate student in the Division of Molecular Pharmaceutics, has been awarded the 2006-2007 GlaxoSmithKline Fellowship. “The Graduate Student Organization and the graduate education committee have made an excellent choice by selecting Emily for the 2006-2007 GSK fellowship,” said Dhiren Thakker, associate dean of research and graduate education. “Their choice was based on Emily’s leadership and her many contributions to the graduate program at the School of Pharmacy in her role as the president of the GSO. Xiao Appointed Fred Eshelman Distinguished Professor of Gene Therapy
June 12, 2006Xiao Xiao, PhD, has been appointed Fred Eshelman Distinguished Professor of Gene Therapy in the Division of Molecular Therapeutics in the UNC School of Pharmacy. Before coming to the School, Xiao was an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he held several joint appointments. He was also an adjunct professor at Huazhong Science and Technology University Tongji Medical College in Wuhan, China, and a guest professor at Fudan University Shanghai Medical College in Shanghai, China.
