PY4 Levine Receives APhA Foundation Charles C. Thomas Scholarship

The American Pharmacists Association Foundation has selected fourth-year Doctor of Pharmacy student Jennifer Levine as the 2016 recipient of the Charles C. Thomas scholarship. The APhA Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., received a record 92 applications from 62 schools and colleges of pharmacy. Of the applicants, eight students received scholarships this year. Scholarships are awarded to recognize exceptional demonstration of leadership skills and academics through active involvement in the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists. School Earns Number One U.S. News Ranking among Pharmacy Schools

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is number one in the latest rankings of the nation’s Doctor of Pharmacy programs by U.S. News & World Report in the 2017 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools. The School placed second in the 2013 and 2009 U.S. News rankings, the last two times these ratings were compiled. Wendy Cox to Serve as Associate Dean For Curricular and Student Affairs

Wendy Cox, Pharm.D., is the new associate dean for curricular and student affairs at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, moving from her role as assistant dean for professional education effective January 1. Cox is also a clinical associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. Cox’s new responsibilities include managing curricular issues, including the re-engineered Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum, and she will continue to oversee the Office of Student Affairs. PY3 Brian Kurish Appointed Vice Chair of ACCP Student Committee

When Brian Kurish attended the 2014 American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s annual meeting in Austin, Texas, as a second-year pharmacy student, he saw that the ACCP was a strong resource for involving students in clinical pharmacy. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy held its 2015 annual Awards Ceremony April 19 at the Rizzo Center. Casey Emerson, the School’s former director of education technology, is this year’s winner of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to an exceptional supporter of the School’s service and outreach initiatives whose accomplishments and contributions have enhanced the School and the profession of pharmacy at the local, state, national, or international level. Three Student-Faculty Teams Win 2015 Walmart Scholarships

Three student-faculty teams have been named 2015 Walmart Scholars by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, marking the ninth consecutive year that the School has had at least one recipient for the award and the fourth consecutive year with three. CAPS Wins Three Awards at APhA Annual Meeting

Student representatives from the Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy returned from the American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego, California, March 27–30 with three awards for pharmacy excellence. CAPS is the School’s chapter of the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists. CAPS was awarded first runner-up for the 2013–2014 APhA-ASP Chapter Achievement Award for Division A schools. School Hosts Summit for Provider Status at Asheville Campus

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy tackled the hot-button issue of provider status in March with its Asheville Summit for Provider Status. The summit provided an opportunity for students to learn about provider status and hear about successful models of integrating pharmacists into health care. Wisseh and Bivins Place Second at SNPhA Kroger Clinical Skills Competition

Two students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Cheryl Wisseh and Amber Bivins, took second place at the Regional Kroger Clinical Skills Competition in Atlanta February 20–22. The Student National Pharmaceutical Association Kroger Regional Clinical Skills Competition is an opportunity for students from across the Southeast to showcase their pharmaceutical expertise. Each of the twenty-four teams was judged based on their ability to counsel a hypothetical patient case. Three UNC Pharmacy Students Selected for Johns Hopkins Internship

In the second week of February, Catherine Buckthal, Stephanie Jean, and Jennifer Ku, all second-year pharmacy students at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, received phone calls with a Baltimore, Maryland, area code.
