The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy hosted 35 international attendees from Monash University Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and University College London (UCL) School of Pharmacy for PharmAlliance Week 2024.

PharmAlliance is a strategic, international partnership between three top-10 schools of pharmacy in the world. The partnership holds an annual conference to bring new ideas, space for discussion, and opportunity for collaboration to faculty, staff and students. This year’s theme spoke to the partnership’s synergetic nature — “Collaboration Crossroads: Sharing talent, tools and techniques.”

The conference kicked-off on June 16 with a reception where Dean Angela Kashuba welcomed attendees to Carolina and the “PharmAlliance Band” played a set of classic hits like “Superstition” and “Jolene”. The band was comprised of members from all three universities.

Throughout the conference, there were five signature sessions with topics ranging from Artificial Intelligence and innovations in teaching difficult conversations to novel communication tools. Poster sessions were also held for students to share updates on their PharmAlliance research projects. Attendees then participated in domain sessions to dive deeper into specific topics—students, education, research and practice.

Here’s what attendees had to say:

“When we get together and talk about our projects and research—that advances us.” – Dean Angela Kashuba, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy

“In its 10th year, PharmAlliance has amplified the strengths of the three leading pharmacy schools in the world across education, research, practice and for students with our first ever UCL student leads breaking ground at UNC and a record level of engagement and outputs. PharmAlliance continues to deliver global citizens and global leaders across three continents as our partnership grows and evolves into the next stage of its mission and global community building.” – Oksana Pyzik, UCL lecturer

“It was such a great opportunity to meet the extended PharmAlliance family and collaborate with the student domain on the future of PharmAlliance Research Clusters for Doctoral Training.” – Darshna Goordeen, Ph.D. candidate, Monash

Leading up to the week, the School welcomed the new PharmAlliance program coordinator, Sophia Mortha, Pharm.D. ‘23. Her role involves facilitating the advancement and execution of strategic priorities across the pharmacy schools at Carolina, UCL and Monash.

Joining PharmAlliance is a fantastic opportunity to connect with individuals who bring a variety of opinions and experiences, all contributing to our commitment to improving human health through innovative ideas and solutions,” said Mortha. “I am eager to contribute to our shared mission and look forward to the many meaningful interactions and collaborations ahead.”
