Map of Early Assurance Program partners across the state.

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, the No.1 pharmacy school in the country, and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) have established an Early Assurance Program (EAP). This partnership means current NC A&T students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in pharmacy may be eligible for assured admission to the School.

“The Early Assurance Program allows us to admit exceptionally talented students who will become the next generation of pharmacy leaders and innovators,” said Angela Kashuba, Pharm.D., Dean of the UNC Eshleman School of Pharmacy. “This new partnership will open the door for many students to pursue pharmacy.”

Candidates for the EAP will be selected based on academic and nonacademic strengths, consistent with those identified through the NC A&T admissions process and their first year of collegiate study. The NC A&T Pre-Professional Scholars Program Office (PPSP) will nominate students, who have identified an interest in pharmacy, for the EAP. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s recruitment and admissions committee will interview and select students for admission to the EAP.

“Our collaboration with UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to establish this early assurance program is a testament to our dedication to empowering our students in their pursuit of pharmacy careers, ensuring they receive top-tier education and support,” said Tonya Smith-Jackson Ph.D., NC A&T Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. “This partnership underscores our commitment to nurturing academic excellence and equipping our students for prosperous futures in the healthcare sector.”

The first cohort of NC A&T early assurance students will apply in fall 2024, be selected in spring 2025 and begin their journey toward the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

To mark this new partnership, the School will be hosting a kick-off event at NC A&T’s Barnes Hall Atrium on April 24 from 12:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for NC A&T students to learn more about the EAP.

Other EAP partnering universities include Appalachian State University, East Carolina University, UNC-Asheville, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Pembroke, UNC-Wilmington and Western Carolina University.
