Photo of Derek BartlettDerek Bartlett, Ph.D., joined the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as an assistant professor in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics (DPET) in July 2023 after 15 years working in the pharmaceutical industry.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and have thoroughly enjoyed getting plugged into the Carolina community,” said Bartlett. “I love the energy, curiosity and optimism of the university environment, and I appreciate the uniquely collaborative culture here.”

He completed a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Stanford University and received a master’s and doctorate in chemical engineering at the California Institute of Technology. He then received postdoctoral training in cancer immunotherapeutics at the Beckman Research Institute at City of Hope. Bartlett brings expertise in the areas of targeted drug delivery, molecular imaging, and mechanistic pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Bartlett to our faculty. He joins us with over 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in the rapidly growing area of quantitative systems pharmacology. He is uniquely positioned to establish collaborations with researchers across the School and University and significantly impact our research training programs,” said Craig Lee, Pharm.D., Ph.D., John A. and Deborah S. McNeill, Jr. Distinguished Professor and chair of DPET.

The Bartlett lab is engaged in projects at the interface of pharmaceutical sciences, engineering and medicine. This provides multi-disciplinary collaborations to help solve the most pressing health care challenges.

“I look forward to pursuing research that can help transform how new medicines are discovered and developed, and I am excited to have the opportunity to help students and trainees gain the skills, knowledge and perspective they need to go from here and make their own unique positive impact on society,” said Bartlett.
