For three weeks in July, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy virtually hosted its Innovations and Transformations in Pharmaceutical Sciences 2020 conference.

The annual conference was geared toward current and future scientists to learn about the discovery, delivery, and clinical use of drugs and vaccines – a topic of upmost importance during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 350 people participated from more than 9 countries, including United States, China, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, among others.

The online conference exposed participants to world-class professors from the No.1-ranked school of pharmacy in the United States. Together, participants explored cutting-edge research and innovative technologies across the development lifecycle of drugs and vaccines of today.

“Now more than ever, it’s critical that we bring current and future pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists together from around the world to discuss the discovery, delivery, and clinical use of drugs and vaccines. Through this conference, we have the unique ability to come together and talk about COVID-19 treatment, global immunization programs, medication dosing in children, and genetics in pharmacotherapy, and so much more,” said conference organizer Stephen Eckel, Pharm.D., MHA, BCPS, and clinical associate professor at the School.

Participants in the program were offered free introductory topics in pharmaceutical sciences. The second and third weeks, available exclusively to registered participants, dove deeper into the fascinating science and clinical application of drugs and vaccines. Registered participants received certificates for attending the conference.
