Three PGY1 community pharmacy residents at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy have received $1,000 Incentive Grants from the American Pharmacists Association Foundation.
The grants provide seed money to help pharmacists implement or support innovative patient-care services within their pharmacy practice. The School’s 2013 recipients are:
- Amanda Gates, PharmD, a School alumna who is completing her residency at Kerr Drug in Chapel Hill. Gates will use her grant to complete a research project to evaluate patient knowledge of over-the-counter acetaminophen use and ability to interpret the new Tylenol Extra Strength label.
- Mandy Hollar, PharmD, who is also a School alumna completing her residency at Kerr Drug in Chapel Hill. Hollar’s grant will support a study to determine the most efficient medication therapy management program by comparing MTM service delivery across four time periods and capturing different levels of MTM provision.
- Leslie Norris, PharmD, a Campbell University graduate who is based at Moose Pharmacy in Concord. Norris will collaborate with the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations to conduct a survey of state pharmacy associations and state boards of pharmacy. The survey aims to update information on the scope of immunization authority for all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico in order to evaluate pharmacists’ access to immunization information systems and to define pharmacists’ reporting requirements to those systems.
