Company Expands Funding for Fellows Program from Two Years to Four

UNC School of Pharmacy graduate students Xin Ming, Jeannie Padowski, and Brandon Swift have been named 2006–2008 Eli Lilly and Co.-UNC Predoctoral Fellows in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Disposition.

Over the past four years, Lilly has provided funding for two predoctoral fellows in this program. In light of the success of this program from both the company and University perspectives, Lilly increased its commitment by supporting the fellowship program for four more years.

Kim Brouwer, PharmD, chair of the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, says that Lilly maintains a close relationship with the fellows.

“Lilly has been an outstanding partner in the education of our graduate students. They go beyond simply providing funding and take an active role in encouraging and enabling our students to pursue their research interests,” Brouwer says.

Bob Blouin, PharmD, dean of the School of Pharmacy, said he was pleased that Lilly had renewed its support of the fellows.

“The UNC School of Pharmacy has enjoyed a productive relationship with Eli Lilly that goes back decades,” Blouin says. “They have always been supportive of the School and our students, many of whom have gone on to have long careers with the company. I thank them for the opportunities they continue to provide for our students.”

The next group of Lilly Fellows will be named in 2008.
