CIPhER Seminar – Grades and Grading in Pharmacy Education: Fair, Useful, and Efficient

September 22, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join CIPhER for “Grades and Grading in Pharmacy Education: Fair, Useful, and Efficient.” This online webinar will be held online Friday, September 22, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Instructor: Adam Persky, PhD, FACSM, Professor and Associate Dean of Professional Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy

Description: In this session we will explore the meaning of grades within pharmacy education and ways to grade with rigor and efficiently. Grading is a big part of our jobs and we spend about 15% of our teaching time on grading. But there are ways to make the process less overwhelming while still providing helpful feedback to students. The secret is to keep in mind what grades are meant to communicate and the benefits of feedback. We will explore approaches like specifications grading and contract grading.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss misinformation about grades
  • Describe specifications grading
  • Describe contracts grading
  • Re-envision grades and the grading process for their class

Target Audience: This program is designed for faculty, staff, preceptors, post-graduate trainees, and students.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE is Wednesday, September 20th, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time
