Pharm.D. students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy maintained the No. 1 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) PGY1 residency match rate among schools of pharmacy in the U.S. with 75 or more students registering to match. In addition, the School was No. 1 among North Carolina pharmacy programs.

The match happens annually to help Pharm.D. students secure positions in residency programs of their choice, and to help the programs get the applicants of their choice.

“From welcoming these students in their first year, to celebrating their achievements on match day, walking alongside them through their journey is a true privilege and I can’t wait to see how they lead and innovate within the pharmacy profession,” said Angela Kashuba, Dean of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

Following phase two of the match, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy has a 91.5% match rate – that is the highest PGY1 match rate among pharmacy schools with at least 75 students registered.

In addition, the School had the highest PGY2 match rate of 98%, compared to all other programs who had at least 30 graduates registered for the PGY2 match. Compared to all schools across the country, the School had the highest number of Class of 2023 graduates secure a PGY2 residency.

Following the first and second phases of the match process, nearly 90% of the graduating Class of 2024 students who submitted applications matched with a residency program, according to statistics from the ASHP. Twenty-seven Pharm.D. students were matched with residency programs in North Carolina, and 22 other states are represented among the programs where students were matched. The School had the highest PGY1 and PGY2 match rate among all North Carolina pharmacy schools.
