Caroline Eason, Pharm.D. candidate, Class of 2025, is a third generation UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy student who plans to follow her grandfather and father’s footsteps in community pharmacy.

“Watching my grandfather in my early childhood and my dad today serving our community – it’s inspired me to go into pharmacy and community pharmacy specifically,” Eason said.

Growing up in Lawndale, North Carolina, she witnessed the impact of a community pharmacy through her family and is excited to be part of the inaugural Community Pharmacy Student Scholar Leader Program, created by the Academia-Community Transformation (ACT) Pharmacy Collaborative.

This program selected 50 students from across the country with a passion for community pharmacy. The goal for the program is to provide a space for networking, to develop leadership skills and to create a practice transformation philosophy and a career development plan to drive community-based pharmacy practice.

“From this experience, I hope to gain a network with others that are in a similar situation as me. Being able to share ideas and solutions to challenges community pharmacy is facing with those that are like minded and have similar goals is invaluable,” she said.

Eason is also the president of the School’s National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) chapter. She hopes to encourage other students to seriously consider community pharmacy as a career and even has a long-term goal of being an advocate for community pharmacy as a legislature.

“Community pharmacy is a more personalized health care that I’m passionate about. The impact you can have and the loyalty the patients give you really stands out to me,” she said.

After graduating in 2025, Eason plans to take everything she’s learned and experienced back to her hometown community pharmacy, TAS Drug, with hope of continuing her family’s legacy.
