Mylan Award for Excellence in Pharmacy
The faculty recognizes the graduating student who is in the top 25 percent of the class, has high professional motivation, and has superior proficiency in the provision of drug information services.
Emily Steinweg Heritage
T.R. Burgiss Family Award
This award is based on a student’s personal involvement in an intervention case that best illustrates the profession of pharmacy in action. Candidates submit a paper describing their professional involvement with a patient in the area of health promotion and disease prevention.
Hazel Richardson
Ralph P. Rogers Sr. Pharmacy Administration Award
This award is given each year to a third- or fourth-year professional student who has expressed a keen interest in a career in community pharmacy and who has performed well in relevant classes. Candidates are judged on an essay they prepare, as well as relevent coursework. The award is made in honor of Ralph P. Rogers, Sr., a prominent Durham area pharmacist, and is given by his family.

George H. Cocolas Pharmacy Student Body Award
The student body presents this award is to a member of the graduating class who has demonstrated the highest qualities of character, deportment, scholarship, participation in extracurricular activities, and promise of future distinction in the profession of pharmacy. This award was renamed in 1998 in honor of George H. Cocolas, RPh, PhD, retired associate dean of the School of Pharmacy.

Boka Hadzija Student Excellence Award
The student body presents this award as peer recognition of all-around service and dedication to the profession of pharmacy. The award was established in 1998 by the Student Senate and named in honor of Boka W. Hadzija, PhD, in recognition of her many contributions to the students and educational programs of the School of Pharmacy.

Presented for outstanding performance by a first-, second-, or third-year professional student in the Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory who demonstrates excellence in professionalism, written and verbal communications, pharmaceutical compounding, medication administration, and patient care.

USPHS Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Practice Award
This award is given annually to a student at each school of pharmacy who has demonstrated the development and implementation of programs that advance the goals stated in “Healthy People 2010,” and who participates in programs that support the philosophy and goals of the U.S. Public Health Service.

AFPE Gateway to Research Scholarship
Awarded by the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education to encourage promising professional students to consider advanced graduate education and careers in research by supporting faculty-mentored research. Selection is based on the quality of the research proposal, academic achievement, and relevance to the student’s career plans.

Jacobs Award in Medicinal Chemistry
The Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products selects a graduating student who achieved excellence in medicinal chemistry coursework and research. The award is named in honor of M. L. Jacobs, dean of the School of Pharmacy from 1946 to 1950, and a medicinal chemist.
