The Office of Technology Development (OTD), in support of the university's mission to encourage innovation and disseminate knowledge, serves the university and the public by licensing innovations developed by faculty, students and staff.
The goal of Carolina KickStart is to improve the probability of successfully commercializing UNC faculty technology for treating human disease via therapeutics, diagnostics, or medical device.
Services offered by KickStart include:
Assisting faculty in the business planning process, including by providing expertise and tools for market analysis, cost estimates and budgeting for new ventures, and assistance formulating well-written business plans, educating faculty about the commercialization process
The Carolina KickStart Commercialization Award Program provides funding and access to external business experts to assist faculty with commercial translation of inventions.
KickStart commercialization webinars provide foundational information to overcome barriers to commercialization for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Launching the Venture is a series of courses that help UNC faculty, staff and students turn ideas into new ventures.
Student-led business competition designed to promote entrepreneurship at UNC.
