How long will it take me to complete the program?

It is anticipated it will take a minimum of 15 hours to complete the required modules. Actual time spent will depend on your learning process, how in-depth your meetings with your mentor are, and how involved your teaching practicum experience is.

Do I have to attend any live or synchronous sessions?

No. TLC is fully asynchronous and available 24/7. This means you can complete your learning whenever your schedule allows. Completion of the teaching practicum experience will need to be either in-person or virtually at your existing practice site.

What is required to complete the teaching practicum experience?

The practicum is a culminating activity or capstone project which requires you to apply evidence-based teaching and learning strategies acquired during the program. Your practicum can consist of any teaching activity from your current practice or educational environment such as a presentation or lecture, rotation experience, student supervision, or patient education. It is expected you will solicit feedback on your teaching from peers or higher and/or recipients as well as your mentor (optional, but highly encouraged). Feedback received should be reflected upon and will be included in the module quiz through questions focused on self-examination of the process, assessment of your success and professional development, feedback received, and future opportunities for continued improvement.

How are the modules structured?

Each module consists of a video presentation or article(s). Participants are responsible for learning the material presented and will be assessed through quizzes. Participants must obtain a score of 80% or higher to pass the module.

How do I obtain my CE credit through ACPE?

After completion of all modules, you will be sent a link to the program evaluation. We ask that you complete the evaluation within 7 days of completing the modules. After you complete the program evaluation, your continuing education credit of 15 hours will be submitted to CPE Monitor. It could take up to 2 weeks for credit to be reflected in your CPE Monitor account.

Am I required to have a mentor?

You are not required to select a mentor as a requirement of the program, although, we highly encourage you to select one. Your mentor will assist you in developing and assessing your learning plan and in applying what you are learning in the program by providing feedback on your teaching. Their feedback and guidance will be especially valuable in completion of the practicum.

What makes a good mentor and what is their role?

To optimize the learning experience, mentors should meet with their mentee at least twice during the program. These meetings should occur around the development of the learning plan and the completion of the practicum. They should provide feedback on the learning plan and suggest ways in which goals can be accomplished. They should also provide input on the planned practicum and should review and comment on feedback provided by recipients/peers to help in assessing the teaching experience.

Participants are encouraged to find a mentor in their institution which should be someone who is committed to the role of mentoring, accepting of the beginning teacher, skilled at providing support, effective in interpersonal contexts and models continuous learning.
