Geri Middleton and Phyllis Smith, employees at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, have received awards from the UNC-Chapel Hill Employee Forum recognizing their service to the School.

Middleton, who received the Rookie Award, is the Pharmaceutical Care Labs assistant. Here’s part of what PCL Director Kelly Scolaro, who nominated Middleton for the award, said about her contributions:

She jumped right in and has made a huge difference for the faculty, teaching assistants, and students in the Pharmaceutical Care Labs. She is organized and efficient and helps the labs run smoothly. She helps with schedules, orders supplies for labs, helps with the lab budget, and host of other duties. Geri also helps with logistics between Chapel Hill and our distance education site at Elizabeth City State University and makes sure the students have a good lab experience. She has also used her background in teaching to provide valuable insight on several projects that the team has worked on.

Smith, who oversees facilities for the School, received the Milestone Award, which honors University employees who have more than twnety years of service. She was nominated for the award by K. H. Lee, PhD, the Kenan Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products at the School. An excerpt from Lee’s nomination letter for Smith:

There are not enough positive words to describe all that Phyllis has contributed during the close to twenty-five years she has worked at the School of Pharmacy, but her actions most recently as Facilities Maintenance Coordinator certainly exemplify her contributions. During the past several and still continuing years of renovation in the SOP, including the construction of Kerr Hall and major renovations of Beard Hall, Phyllis has coordinated the time-consuming and often exhausting relocation of personnel and equipment. She has successfully walked this narrow tightrope between the demands on many sides. Throughout it all, Phyllis has never lost her positive, can-do outlook. Her attitude makes you believe that any request you have will be taken care of just as quickly and efficiently as it can be.
