The winners of the 8th annual N.C. Songwriters’ contest were named Nov. 12 following a show at the Carrboro ArtsCenter featuring all eight finalists.

The winner of this year’s contest was Sonya Lorelle of Norfolk, Va., with her songs, “There’s Something” and “Bedtime Story.” She was joined by second-place winner Brian Hershberger of Hillsborough, with “These Old Friends of Mine” and “Twice in a Blue Moon,” and, in third place, Tara Allison of Monroe, with “If I Knew You Then” and “Never Far Away.”

The remaining finalists were Chuck Champion of Mebane, with “Three Day Weekend” and “For a Moment”; Mary Rocap of Cedar Grove, with “Flamingos” and “Cassiopeia”; Karl Ruch of Chapel Hill, with “Roll the Windows Down” and “Jimmy”; Nathan Davis of Pinehurst, with “Carolina Sky” and “Still Rock and Roll”; Tony Lee Glenn of Conover, with “Somewhere You’ll Find Me” and “You Make a Red Blooded Boy Blue.”

Honorable mentions went to Freddy Bradburn, Billy Byron, Tracy Feldman, Mary Johnson, Jimmy Magoo, Scott Pearce, Martin Swinger and Greg Taylor.
