Adam Persky, PhD, a clinical assistant professor at the UNC School of Pharmacy, has been named a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Persky, who is in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics, will be inducted into the fellowship program during the ACSM’s national meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 28-31. He will also deliver a tutorial lecture at the conference on May 29 about drug interactions with nutrients, supplements and exercise.

The ACSM Fellowship program recognizes professional achievement and competence in the related disciplines of sports medicine through education, published works, and professional practice, as well as a demonstrated interest in and/or contribution to the goals of sports medicine.

Persky, who advanced to fellowship through the research path, has been a member of the ACSM since 1996. He has been a speaker at ACSM events, chaired sessions at national meetings, and published book chapters and articles about sports medicine. He also has helped the ACSM’s Nutrition Interest Group with selecting student awards. In addition, he started a course at the School that educates professional pharmacy students on the basics of exercise physiology, evidence-based medicine with respect to exercise, and basic exercise prescription.

With more than 20,000 members, the ACSM is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world. It promotes and integrates scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life.
