Stefanie Ferreri, PharmD, CDE, the director of the Community Pharmacy Residency Program at the UNC School of Pharmacy, has been elected as a fellow of the American Pharmacists Association by the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management.

Ferreri, a clinical assistant professor in the School’s Division of Pharmacy Practice and Experiential Education, will be recognized at an award ceremony at the APhA annual meeting in March in San Diego.

To qualify for the honor, a candidate must be a member of either the APhA-APPM or the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science and have at least ten years of professional experience and achievements in professional practice. An APhA Fellow also must have performed outstanding service for the profession through activities in APhA and other organizations, such as by holding elected or appointed office, serving on a committee, or being part of an expert panel or review board.

“Serving the profession is a responsibility I don’t take lightly,” Ferreri says. “I’m flattered to be recognized for doing what I love, and I’m pleased that I can represent the University on the national level.”

Ferreri joined the School faculty in 2001 and became director of the Community Pharmacy Residency Program in 2005. She is also a course coordinator and instructor at the School and has served as a preceptor for PharmD students and residents. She has been a practicing pharmacist since 1997 and maintains a practice site at the Kerr Drug Health Care Center in Chapel Hill, where she served as a full-time clinical coordinator for three years. Ferreri also has been active in professional service at the national, state, and local levels. She is on the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists Board of Directors. In August 2007, she was elected as the chair of the Clinical/Pharmacotherapeutic Practice Section of the APhA-APPM, a post that she will hold from March 2008 to March 2010.

“Being named an APhA Fellow is a big-time recognition,” says Steve Caiola, MS, the chair of DPPEE. “It really underscores the value Stefanie brings to the School and the profession and how much she has done with the opportunities she has made here.”
