Amanda Savage, Pharm.D., formerly a clinical instructor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education, has been promoted to clinical assistant professor.

Savage works in the Asheville, North Carolina, satellite campus. Her scholarship efforts will focus on best practices in simulated patient and preceptor encounters utilizing objective structured clinical examinations.

“Amanda is a valued member of PACE and our Asheville campus. She has made significant contributions to both our legacy and transformed curriculums,” said Denise Rhoney, Pharm.D., Ron and Nancy McFarlane Distinguished Professor and chair of PACE.

Savage holds certificates in pharmacy-based immunization delivery, pharmacist and patient-centered diabetes care and delivering medication therapy management services all from the American Pharmacists Associations. She received training in primary compounding, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and pain management from the Professional Compounding Centers of America.

Savage earned her Pharm.D. from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2003. She also did her undergraduate studies in prepharmacy at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Prior to joining the School three years ago, Savage spent 12 years in a variety of community practice settings. She has been a staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager in both chain and independent pharmacy environments. Most recently she worked at CVS/Pharmacy in Asheville, North Carolina, as a pharmacist. Prior to that, she was both a pharmacist and a pharmacy manager at Kim’s Pharmacy and Kim’s Compounds and Wellness in Waynesville, North Carolina, where she was involved in the development and implementation of both clinical and compounding pharmacy services.

Her other experience includes being a pharmacist at Village Pharmacy in Leicester, North Carolina, and Mission Hospital Pharmacotherapy Clinic in Asheville. Her first job after completing her Pharm.D. was as a pharmacist-in-charge at CVS/Pharmacy in Asheville.

Savage’s responsibilities in these positions included patient education, medication therapy management and being a preceptor to pharmacy students on financial and administrative duties. She also developed and implemented clinical consult and immunization services.
