More than forty students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy attended the 2014 APhA Annual Meeting held March 27–31 in Orlando, Florida. The group included fourteen students from the School’s Asheville campus.

The Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students received the 2012–2013 APhA-ASP Chapter of the Year Award. CAPS is the School’s chapter of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists. The award is the highest honor an APhA-ASP chapter can receive. CAPS is also supported by two new practitioner mentors, – David Steeb, PharmD, former APhA-ASP national president, and Megan Smith, former vice chair of the APhA-ASP Education Standing Committee.

CAPS was the first runner-up for the APhA-ASP Operation Heart National Award (cochairs are Jesse Fletcher and Lauren Gray) and for the APhA-ASP Operation Self-Care National Award (cochairs are Jay Kim and Sarah Peters).

The organization was also second runner-up for the Generation Rx National Award for the second year in a row. Two pairs of cochairs worked on Generation Rx: Marti Guidotti and Beth Tevepaugh and Rachel Carpenito and Meghan Maples.

For the second year in a row, CAPS was recognized as the regional award winner for 2012-2013 Operation Diabetes. Julie Carrington and Melanie Hurtt were the School’s Operation Diabetes cochairs.
