Macary Marciniak and Joe Moose
Macary Marciniak and Joe Moose were recognized by APhA for their roles in advising students.

Macary Marciniak, PharmD, and Joe Moose, PharmD, have both been recognized for different roles as a resource for pharmacy students by the American Pharmacists Association.

Both award winners are instructors at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Marciniak was awarded the 2015 Outstanding Chapter Adviser for her work with the Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students, and Moose was awarded the 2015 Community Pharmacy Residency Excellence in Precepting Award for his role as a preceptor at Moose Pharmacy.

They will receive their award at the APhA annual meeting in San Diego, March 27–30.

Outstanding Adviser

Marciniak is a clinical associate professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Marciniak is the adviser of CAPS, a unified professional organization affiliated with the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. CAPS is the School’s chapter of the APhA-Academy of Student Pharmacists, which provides professional opportunities to students at pharmacy schools across the country. She also acts as the advisor for the School’s Phi Delta Chi Professional Pharmacy Fraternity.

“Dr. Marciniak has an unparalleled ability to inspire students,” says CAPS APhA-ASP Chapter President Jenny Levine. “As our adviser, she is able to turn our ideas into reality.”

Before coming to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2008, Marciniak was a community pharmacy faculty member at Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, New York, for seven years.

She is a board certified ambulatory care pharmacist, a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist, and a fellow of the APhA. She has completed certificate-training programs in diabetes, immunization, MTM, self-care, and tobacco cessation.

Marciniak is also a certification trainer for the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Program and was featured as the expert pharmacist in WebMD’s 2011 year-long series “Ask the Pharmacist.”

Excellence in Precepting

Moose serves as a primary preceptor with the School’s Community Pharmacy Residency Program at Moose Pharmacy in Concord, NC. Moose is also a preceptor for students completing introductory and advanced practice experiential education rotations with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Campbell University, and Wingate University.

Moose is a co-owner of Moose Pharmacy, which has five locations across North Carolina. Moose manages the site in Concord. Moose Pharmacy is an independent, family-owned business that has been in operation since 1882. It was named the North Carolina Family Business of the Year in 2008.

He is cochair of the NC Medical Drug Regimen Review Board, a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for NC Medicaid, and a Patient Care Committee Member for the National Association of Community Pharmacy.

In 2012, Moose was named the Next-Generation Pharmacist Entrepreneur of the Year  and Overall Next Generation Pharmacist of the Year by the medical technology company Parata Systems for his high standards of patient care and commitment to excellent pharmacy.

Moose received his doctor of pharmacy from Campbell University in 1990.
