Kimberly Sanders, Pharm.D.

Kimberly Sanders, Pharm.D., has joined the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. She also has a joint appointment at the UNC School of Dentistry as an assistant professor in the Department of Dental Ecology.

At UNC Sanders will build relationships between the schools of pharmacy and dentistry to develop, implement and evaluate clinical pharmacy services in dental practice clinics. She will also play a role in creating longitudinal interprofessional education curricula.

Sanders is working at the interface of educational and practice-based research, with focus specifically on interprofessional education and collaborative practice. She says she is passionate about concentrating her clinical efforts on high risk and vulnerable populations and employing a team-based approach to best optimize patient care.

Sanders’ experience in collaborative practice includes helping providers and care managers address the needs of patients at high risk for hospital readmission within the UNC Family Medicine Center care transitions clinic. She also has practice experience within a collaborative geriatrics specialty clinic.

After receiving her Doctor of Pharmacy from Purdue University in 2013, Sanders completed a one-year pharmacy practice residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and a two-year academic postdoctoral research fellowship in pharmacy practice model advancement at the UNC Eshleman School of Pharmacy. Additionally, she is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist and a member of several pharmacy professional organizations.
