Safe to Speak: How to Foster Psychological Safe Environments

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021, Via Zoom

Have you heard someone talk about “psychological safety” and you’re curious what it means or why it matters? Join us for an exploration into psychological safety, the research that illustrates its significance, and how it can be applicable in your practice. This program will include opportunities to assess your own perceptions of psychological safety and to identify opportunities to foster psychological safety in your work and teaching environments. You will leave prepared to apply the information in actionable ways to have an immediate impact in your classroom and/or practice. 

 

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe psychological safety and its impact on collaboration and learning
  2. Outline techniques to assess and monitor psychological safety among teams
  3. Identify strategies to foster psychologically safe environments

 

Target Audience: This program is designed for all preceptors, faculty, staff, trainees, and students.

Registration:  For non-UNC affiliates, registration is $15.00.  (UNC Affiliates are considered to be faculty, staff, trainees, students, preceptors and residents who currently work for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or support its students.)

The University Of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE program 0046-9999-21-210-L04-P provides 1.0 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit. To receive CE credit, participants must complete the CE attendance form and the online evaluation of the program (instructions to be emailed). Statements of credit can be viewed and printed in CPE Monitor in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. **No partial credit will be available**

 

Presenter Information

Michael D. Wolcott, PharmD, PhD, BCIDPS,

Director of Educational Resources and Scholarship, UNC Adams School of Dentistry & CIPhER Faculty Fellow, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy

Michael D. Wolcott, PharmD, PhD, BCIDPS is the Director of Educational Resources and Scholarship at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry. In this role, he supports faculty to optimize teaching and learning, enhance their teaching experience, and inspire educational scholarship. He completed his PhD in education at the UNC School of Education specializing in the learning sciences and psychological studies. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy followed by a pharmacy practice residency at Duke University Hospital, where he worked as a clinical infectious diseases pharmacist. Michael is also a clinical assistant professor and faculty fellow in the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education and Research (CIPhER) at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy where he supports educational research initiatives within the School. Michael’s research focuses on creative problem-solving, curriculum change management, preceptor development, and assessment.
