Pharmaceutical Sciences Open House

A career in pharmaceutical sciences is sometimes overlooked by students interested in applied biological science, and it is our goal to shed some light on this career path and the opportunities available at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy and beyond. The 2nd Annual Open House will be from 1:00-6:00pm in the Bioinformatics Building Room 1131 on UNC’s Campus on April 13. This year, the program will consist of an opening by Dr. Morris Clarke (a former faculty member at Winston Salem State University), a description of the pharmaceutical sciences program at UNC and the specific divisions therein by current graduate students, an alumni talk by Dr. Sarah Thacker about her career in pharmaceutical sciences, and a description of the professional development opportunities available to UNC graduate students by Dr. Beka Layton. Finally, Dr. Ashalla Freeman will speak about the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP) and Postbaccalaureate Research and Education Program (PREP) as other methods for gaining access to a graduate career at UNC. Following the program, there will be lab tours, a poster session featuring the work of current graduate students, and a catered dinner. There will also be an opportunity for students to learn about the application process and the qualities of a strong applicant.
