A Lightning Round of Tips Relating to Online Learning

12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020, Via Zoom 

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in another transition to virtual spaces.  As a result of this transition, various ways to engage learners, assess student learning and communicate with students have emerged.  During this program, Eshelman faculty, preceptors, staff and trainees will present evidence-based tips for effective online learning. In an effort to build community and generate ideas, participants will be asked to engage in discussions about the topics presented.  Presentations will be grouped in themes in a lightning round format.


  1. Describe evidence-based experiences relating to effective practices for online learning in higher education
  2. Share successes and lessons learned from ESOP’s professional and graduate curricula
  3. Share planned ideas for spring 2021 or general pearls related to teaching in a virtual setting

Target Audience:  This program is designed for all faculty, preceptors, staff and trainees who have or will teach in a virtual setting.

Facilitator Information

Clinical Assistant Professor & Assistant Director of CIPhER

Kathryn Morbitzer, PharmD, MS, is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education and Assistant Director in CIPhER at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.  She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Wayne State University and her Master’s in biomedical and health informatics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She also completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residence at the Medical University of South Carolina and an academic research fellowship at the UNC Eshelman School of pharmacy.  Currently, her research focuses on optimization of the medication use process and exploring student and resident research and scholarship training.
