Understanding and Effectively Addressing Inequities in Health

Join the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health for “Understanding and Effectively Addressing Inequities in Health” with Dr. David Williams PhD, MPH! This lecture is part of the Dean’s Inclusive Excellence Lecture series!

Dr. Williams is the Norman Professor of Public Health and chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. He is also a professor of African and African-American studies and sociology at Harvard University. He is an internationally recognized authority on social influences on health.

This presentation will give an overview of socioeconomic and racial/ethnic inequities in health. It will also describe promising interventions to improve the delivery of medical care, reduce stress and the harmful health effects of exposure to stress on health, as well as to enhance job opportunities, housing and neighborhood conditions that can improve health and eliminate health inequities.

This lecture will be held in-person and online on Monday, April 3 from 10 – 11 A.M. The in-person location will be the Joan Heckler Gillings Auditorium (Rosenau 133)

Refreshments will be served immediately following the lecture in Armfield Atrium (Michael Hooker Research Center).
