After receiving her Pharm.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Heidi Anksorus completed a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Indiana. Upon completion of the residency, she was offered a position with St. Joseph, where she continued developing as a new practitioner while working in various areas of the medical center’s inpatient and clinical pharmacy services, as well as working in the community pharmacy practice setting.

Wendy Cox
Wendy Cox, Pharm.D., is Associate Dean for Admissions and Accreditation and professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cox received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. After graduation, she completed a pharmacy practice residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and a primary care specialty residency with Campbell University at Kaiser Permanente in Cary, NC, and the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center in Fayetteville, NC. As associate dean for admissions and accreditation, Cox leads Pharm.D. recruitment and admissions efforts and oversees the accreditation of the professional program. She also teaches in the Leadership and Professional Development course series and various pharmacotherapy courses. Her primary research interests include admissions, curricular design, and teaching and learning methods.
Jon Easter
Jon Easter is a Professor of the Practice in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. Easter directs the U.S. Healthcare and the Health Policy and Managed Care courses in the Pharm.D. curriculum. He serves as the Associate Faculty Director at CBOH that aims to create research and educational partnerships between business and pharmacy. Easter has led several pharmacy practice evaluations with a goal of driving positive change in healthcare transformation and policy development. His expertise is in health policy, transformation, and care coordination.
Stephen Eckel
Stephen Eckel, Pharm.D., M.H.A., is associate dean for global engagement and a associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. He leads a two-year Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a specialization in health-system pharmacy administration. This degree is hosted at eight hospitals, five of which are in North Carolina and others are located in 3 other states. At UNC Medical Center, he is director of pharmacy for innovation services, where he is residency program director for the 2-year health system pharmacy administration and leadership residency program. He has worked with almost 200 residents over the years.
Stefanie Ferreri
Stefanie Ferreri, Pharm.D., is the Henry L. Smith and James L. Olsen, PhD Distinguished Professor in Pharmacy Practice and Chair of the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her main research interests include advancing clinical practice in the community-pharmacy setting. Through her research, she hopes to change the way community practice is portrayed and delivered to the population of the United States while influencing reimbursement strategies that affect health policy. Her other interests include nonprescription therapeutics, medication therapy management, the pharmacists’ process of patient care and postgraduate training.

Kathryn Fuller received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Miami and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later completed an Academic Fellowship in Educational Innovation at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy where she helped design several course series and the first-year capstone. Fuller then completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at UNC Health. Currently, she is an assistant professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and practices in the transitions of care clinic at UNC Family Medicine.

Ouita Davis Gatton, RPh is a Professor of the Practice in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education and an Assistant Director of the (PGY1) Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program and the Community-based Psychiatry Fellowship Program.
Suzanne C Harris
Suzanne Harris is an associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education and the Director of Well-being and Resiliency at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She also serves as a board-certified clinical pharmacist practitioner in psychiatry at UNC Medical Center, where she is involved with psychiatric medication management for patients with psychosomatic disorders and serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.
Timothy J. Ives
Timothy J. Ives, Pharm.D., M.P.H., is Professor of Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his baccalaureate and doctoral degrees in pharmacy at the University of Florida, a Master of Public Health in health policy and administration, and a fellowship at UNC-Chapel Hill. Prior to coming to Carolina, he was a member of the faculties of the University of Utah and the Medical University of South Carolina. Ives is a licensed pharmacist and clinical pharmacist practitioner in North Carolina. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, as well as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
Stephanie Kiser
Stephanie Kiser became a lieutenant JG in 1992, commissioned with the U.S. Public Health Service, serving two years with Indian Health Services in Cherokee, North Carolina.
Macary Weck Marciniak
Macary Marciniak is an Associate Professor in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). She is committed to advancing pharmacist-provided care in community-based settings. She serves as the Director of the PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program, which includes innovative practice sites across the state and is one of the oldest and largest programs of its kind in the nation. She also directs two community-based fellowship programs – a Community-based Practice Development Fellowship, in partnership with Rx Clinic Pharmacy, and a Community-based Mental Health Fellowship, in partnership with UNC Campus Health and Counseling and Psychological Services. During her tenure at UNC, she has had the distinct pleasure to mentor and precept over 110 community-based residents and fellows.
Mary McClurg
Mary Roth McClurg, Pharm.D., MHS, is Professor and Executive Vice Dean-Chief Academic Officer at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Roth McClurg practiced for 12 years as a clinical pharmacist in primary care practice within the VA Health System and in the interdisciplinary geriatric clinic within the Department of Geriatrics at UNC Healthcare, providing direct patient care as part of an interprofessional care team. Roth McClurg has focused her research efforts on advancing comprehensive medication management and the role of the clinical pharmacist as an integral member of the primary care team, with the goal of optimizing medication use and improving care in patients with multiple chronic diseases. Roth McClurg is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
Jacqui McLaughlin
Jacqui McLaughlin, Ph.D., received her undergraduate degree in biological engineering from North Carolina State University, her master of science in biomedical engineering from the University of Memphis/University of Tennessee, and her doctorate in educational research and policy analysis from North Carolina State University. She spent one year as a postdoctoral fellow with the Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment (OSPA) at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and currently serves the school as an associate professor in the division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education and as the director of CIPhER (Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education and Research). Dr. McLaughlin has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles about higher education, is on the editorial board for the journals Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning and Education in the Health Professions, and serves as associate editor for BMC Medical Education. Her published research spans a wide range of education topics, including admissions, flipped classrooms, experiential education, student organizations, diversity, graduate training, cognitive apprenticeship, and design thinking.
Kathryn Morbitzer
Kathryn Morbitzer, Pharm.D., M.S., is an associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education, assistant director of the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education & Research (CIPhER), and assistant director of the MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a concentration in Health-System Pharmacy Administration program at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Wayne State University and her Master’s in biomedical and health informatics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and an academic research fellowship at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Currently, her research focuses on expanding pharmacy student opportunities for impact in health care through the study of non-direct patient care (nonclinical) experiences and career pathways and on improving teaching and student learning.
Zachary Noel
Zachary (“Zac”) Noel, PharmD, PhD, is a teaching associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education (PACE) at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He received his PharmD (’14) from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and then went on to complete residency training at UK Healthcare in Lexington, KY, specializing in cardiology during his post-graduate year 2. Prior to starting at ESOP, Noel served as a faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. During that time, he completed his PhD (’23) in Health Professions Education from the University of Maryland, Baltimore Graduate School.
Sachiko Ozawa
Sachiko Ozawa, Ph.D., M.H.S., is a health economist whose work focuses on generating evidence that can be used to improve the health of populations globally. Her research focuses on examining the value of vaccines, assessing the economic burden of diseases and examining the demand and utilization of health care. She is interested in the interface between pharmacy and public health from the perspective of a global health economist.
Nicole Pinelli Reitter
Nicole Pinelli Reitter, Pharm.D., is Executive Director for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice within the Provost’s Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice. She also serves as Director of AHEC and Health System Experiential Partnerships and as an associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
Laura Rhodes
Laura Rhodes, PharmD, BCACP, is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). She is an Assistant Director of the PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program and the Community-based Psychiatry Fellowship Program. In her role with UNC, Laura works collaboratively with the School, Residency Program, and practice sites, preceptors, and residents to transform practice across the state of North Carolina.

Phil Rodgers
Philip Rodgers, Pharm.D., is a clinical associate professor and serves as the Director of Interprofessional Education and Practice at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He coordinates several courses in the School, including Integrated Pharmacotherapy 2 (PHCY 732), and the Patient Care Experience 2 (PHCY 718), as well as teaching in other courses such as Patient Care Experience 1, Pharmacotherapy Foundations, and Integrated Pharmacotherapy 1. He also serves as a faculty advisor for the Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students (CAPS) and to Kappa Psi Professional Pharmacy Fraternity. Rodgers received his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy and his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After earning his Pharm.D., he completed a pharmacy residency in ambulatory care at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond, Virginia. His areas of scholarship and teaching are interprofessional education and collaboration, innovative educational approaches, primary care, and diabetes management. Rodgers has been named a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
Kimberly A Sanders, PharmD
Kimberly Sanders, Pharm.D., is a professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She also has a shared appointment as an assistant professor at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. Sanders earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University. She completed a one-year pharmacy practice residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center as well as a two-year academic postdoctoral research fellowship in pharmacy practice model advancement at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist and a member of numerous pharmacy professional organizations.
Caroline Sasser
Amanda C Savage
After receiving her Pharm.D. from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2003, Amanda Savage spent the first 13 years of her career as a community practice pharmacist in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. She joined the School of Pharmacy as a part-time clinical instructor based on the Asheville campus in May 2014. In May 2015 she joined the faculty full-time. As a clinical assistant professor, her efforts have been focused on teaching within the patient care skills laboratory courses. Her interest includes course coordination and development, objective structured clinical exams (OSCEs), and small group facilitation. She is a faculty fellow in the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education & Research (CIPhER).
Mollie Ashe Scott
Mollie Ashe Scott, Pharm.D. BCACP, CPP, FASHP, serves as the Regional Associate Dean for the School and oversees the operations of the School’s regional campus in Asheville. She collaborates with leaders at UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC including UNC School of Medicine, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and UNC Adams School of Dentistry to advance inteprofessional primary care and rural health education, practice, and research.
Greene Shepherd
Greene Shepherd, Pharm.D., is currently a professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Appalachian State University, Doctor of Pharmacy from Campbell University and completed a fellowship in clinical toxicology at the University of Maryland.
Christina Sherrill
Christy Sherrill, PharmD, BCACP, BC-ADM, CPP in an Associate Professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education (PACE). Dr. Sherrill’s clinical experience includes chronic disease state management under a collaborative practice agreement and Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner credential, providing prescriptive authority within predefined clinical areas such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, anticoagulation, and osteoporosis. Much of her research revolves around diabetes management and education, particularly continuous glucose monitoring and the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors.
Robert Shrewsbury
Bob Shrewsbury received his BS in pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma in 1972 and his PhD from the University of Kentucky in 1977. His background training is in basic and applied biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics and in drug-interaction mechanisms. More recently, his research interests have focused on classroom and laboratory instructional methodologies using Web-based or technology-based formats. He has authored over 100 book chapters, numerous online education courses and continuing education seminars and national certification examination study guides for pharmacy professionals, pharmacy students and pharmacy technicians. He built and maintains an internationally utilized website for pharmacy compounding where 40 percent of the users are from outside the United States. He was elected as member of the USP Expert Committee on Compounding in 2010 and again in 2015, and 2020.
Michael Stepanovic
Dr. Michael Stepanovic, PharmD, MS, is an Assistant Professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. He teaches in both the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences programs, specializing in Health-System Pharmacy Administration. His courses cover supply chain management, pharmaceutical management and the medication use process, leadership development, health system finance, the business of healthcare, and monitoring and evaluation.
Carla White
Carla White is a pharmacist, associate dean of Organizational Diversity and Inclusion, and clinical associate professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She is responsible for the development of an organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy that will direct and align with the School’s education mission. She is a highly regarded thought leader, educator, influencer, and pragmatic disruptor in the DEI space. Major areas of responsibility include developing best practices and strategic and partnerships, addressing challenges, and determining the relevant metrics to assess the School’s effectiveness and impact.
Jackie Zeeman
Jackie Zeeman, PharmD, is a clinical associate professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education (PACE) and an assistant director in the Office of Organizational Effectiveness, Planning, and Assessment (OE) at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wake Forest University and her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. After earning her PharmD, Zeeman completed a pharmacy practice residency at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Pharmacy. She then completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Assessment of Student Learning and the Scholarship of Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
There is no requirement for adjunct faculty to seek promotion and no maximum time limit between ranks for adjunct faculty. Those seeking promotion may apply after a minimum of 3 years at their current rank, however, this more commonly occurs after 5 or more years
